Top 10 skincare mistakes in your daily skincare routine
You could be damaging your skin unintentionally by making the following mistakes ...
Your skin will thank you in the long run if you don't make these mistakes:
- Not washing your hands before touching or cleansing your face. This is the most common mistake people make every day. When transferred to the face, the bacteria from your hands 🤲 can irritate the skin of your face and lead to inflammation and breakouts. To save your face the unwanted problems, wash your hands carefully every time before touching your face.
- Not using an oil-cleanser just because you have oily skin type. If that's the case, you are missing a lot, my friend. In fact oil cleansing works based on the following chemistry rule: oil dissolves oil. That's why the most effective way to remove makeup and sunscreen is with oil-cleansers. Oil-based cleansers clean the skin without damaging the natural moisture and barrier.
- Using hot water instead of warm. Hot water causes damage on the capillaries and changes the normal sebum production. That might lead to either dry skin or excessively oily skin. So to keep things safe, stick with lukewarm water. Also make sure you are rinsing the cleanser completely, because residuals from cleansers can cause dryness and breakout too.
- Cleansing your face with rubbing. That causes damage on the collagen and elastin within the dermis resulting in fine lines and wrinkles. You should cleanse your skin with gentle massaging movements in circular motion.
- Not using a toner. The cleansing products change the slightly acidic pH of the skin. So you need a toner to balance your skins's pH level. If you have dry skin, try to avoid alcohol containing toners as they will irritate and dry out your skin.
- Exfoliating too much. Yep, there is such thing as over-exfoliation. It makes the skin more prompt to irritation, infections and breakouts. It's recommended to exfoliate your skin one to three times a week.
- Stopping your skin care at your chin. By not taking care of your neck you are making big mistake - the eyes and neck are the areas that show the first signs of aging. You can use the same products as for your face but don’t skip to cleanse, tone and moisturise your neck every day.
- Thinking that it is still too early to start using anti-age products. It’s not. Prevention is better than correction. In fact, the best anti-age skincare is the daily wear of sunscreen product.
- Using the same products all year round. Change your skincare products according to the current needs of your skin. Things like seasons, stress and your diet are all factors that can change your skin condition.
- Ignoring your diet habits. The food and drinks you consume are impacting your body including your skin. Too much sugar, coffee and alcohol can cause breakouts. Consume in moderation and when possible use organic ingredients.
Whether your skin concern is oiliness, dryness, acne or signs of aging, your skincare can improve if you try to avoid these mistakes.
